The Lake County Prosecutor’s office announced Thursday that a misdemeanor charge has been filed against Carol-Ann Seaton.

The charge - Registration of a Motor Vehicle Outside of Indiana - stems from having her car registered in Union Pier, Mich., when it was required to be registered in Indiana.

If convicted, Seaton, 62, of Gary, faces a maximum term of 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Seaton is the Democratic candidate for Lake County Assessor.
